How to Prepare for OET
Let’s start with some insight into what OET is. Occupational English Test (OET), as the name indicates, is a type of English language test which has largely replaced IELTS. OET is accepted by several medical councils across the globe including the General Medical Council (UK), Medical Council of Ireland, and Australian Medical Council.
Medical graduates from Pakistan can apply for registration with the Medical Council of Ireland after passing OET through the ‘Certificate of Experience’ route. Also, you’ll need OET before booking PLAB 1. You can also go ahead with the Australian Medical Council exam after clearing OET.
Now let’s discuss OET preparation. Beginners should start with watching videos from two youtube channels; E2 OET and OET OFFICIAL. I found these of great help. If you watch and understand everything they present, believe me, you won’t need an academy. I didn’t need it either; I prepared and passed it on my own.
Secondly, once you’ve gone through the videos, you may start practicing from the material which is available through various Facebook groups. This material is enough for preparation. You don’t need to have paid material.
It is a must to have a partner to share your writings with and get feedback. Ideally, one task of writing, listening, and reading each day is quite doable. Having a partner also makes you stick to your schedule.
Speaking practice can be started in the last 3 weeks, and doing two tasks daily is advised to have a better practice and understanding of the actual test. Futureland (a PDF book for OET) has a good speaking portion. It is worth giving a read before starting speaking practice.
Set yourselves a timer while doing each task, to have yourself better accustomed to the exam conditions.
Lastly, certain individuals are exploiting the fear of failure and are providing paid coaching. It is just an English language test, and most of us have quite a strong base. To me, we don’t need coaching but a little guidance.
Good luck to everyone preparing.

ReplyDeleteBro how long u took for prep of OET?
ReplyDelete6-8 weeks are enough if you're doing a job, otherwise 4 weeks are enough, provided you give at least 6 hours to OET preparation.
